I'M FEELING BLUE LET'S WORK THINGS OUT, 'cause i don't know what to do
?! Chloe felt absolutely awful. Last night was just all around a bad night. First, Nadia just wouldn't get to sleep, was fussy and had a slight fever, and then... well, there was the AIM conversation. She wanted to tell Ken- really, she did- but she just couldn't figure out how. He was already fed up with how she acted, and she was all but sure he would immediately refuse to believe what she said. See, their little fling, I guess you could call it, didn't end when Chloe awkwardly left. A few weeks later, she found out it was just basically a repeat of what happened with Nadia, except they hadn't been drunk. At first, it was easy not to tell him. She wasn't showing, and she could tell herself that it was because she might miscarry- and if she did, he wouldn't believe her if she'd told him, so she figured she just wouldn't tell him until that danger was out of the way. She had been in his presence many times since then, just to drop off and pick up Nadia, and passed up many opportune moments to tell Ken that they had a problem. It got a little more difficult as she started swelling up, but as it was getting cold now, she could hide behind a thick coat without arousing suspicion, and this was only made easier because she was only about four months.
?! Being January, it was incredibly cold out, and though there wasn't a lot of snow on the roads, it was starting to snow again. Still, Chloe really didn't feel like cooking today. She wasn't too bad a cook, but it wasn't like she was Emeril or anything, and she had definitely never been in any formal classes. And it wasn't like there wasn't plenty in her cupboards or fridge, because there were any number of things she could cook with what she already had. But she just didn't feel like cooking. Nadia was easy enough- a bottle or two was all she would need- and Chloe was armed with one. But because she was the only one eating the "real" food, she was the only one who had a say in the matter. She didn't go out often, simply because it wasn't something she particularly enjoyed doing. But today seemed to be as suitable as any. As far as she knew, Ken was busy- she could be wrong, but based on the fact that he hadn't called to have Nadia over, she assumed he was doing something important- so she doubted she would run into him.
?! After bundling up both herself and Nadia, Chloe packed them both into the car- luckily, she'd managed to get a new one, after the old one was completely totaled in the crash- and started driving toward Sakura. The roads weren't all that bad, but still, Chloe drove well below the speed limit and was exceedingly careful. The last thing she wanted was another car crash- and there were three lives at stake here, even if one technically wasn't a "life". She got to the restaurant safely, and parked carefully near the entrance before getting out and locking the car behind her. As she entered the building, it was warm, so after they were seated, Chloe took Nadia's snow suit off so she didn't overheat, laying it on an empty chair, and then covering it with her own coat. It was plenty warm inside Sakura, so they didn't need to be bundled up until they went back outside. Soon after they were seated, Chloe's order was taken, and the kimono-clad waitress walked away. While waiting, Chloe leaned over, talking to Nadia in baby-talk and trying to keep the little girl entertained.

What the fuck. Those three words completely explained last night’s AIM conversation with Chloe. As if things weren’t awkward enough, you know. Kenneth, though tired and couldn’t sleep, didn’t want to stay online if Chloe wasn’t going to give him a straight answer. Truth be told, he really didn’t want to talk to her, even though the awkward “fuck, we did it again” moment happened a few months ago; he was just giving up, or trying to. Being with Chloe was just a fool’s journey. Why even bother trying anymore? It was a miracle she still brought Nadia over and stuff, but that was all. The love he had was slowly slipping away. It did back in the hospital when they got into a car accident, but it resurfaced; like the ebb of the sea. He was just trying to keep it down and gone. it was pointless to like or love something that wasn’t going to return the emotions. At least he had Nadia. The cute little girl wouldn’t completely abandon him, right?
The month was January, and where he lived snow was on the ground and roads, but if you got more on the interior of the city, there was less and less snow. Kenneth slept in, and thus, was a little cranky by the time he woke up. The house was empty, the alarm clock was off, he had nothing to do today, but in a few days, he had work. Sometimes he wished Nadia was there to be his little alarm clock now and then, but she wasn’t… Not now at least. Changing and walking around, Kenneth looked in his refrigerator and pantry for some fast and edible food that didn’t take forever. Everything he had taken forever… About fifteen minutes or more. Man, why did he have to eat all the good stuff first? Looking at the time, he debated on going out to eat or just going back to bed, but hunger won this round.
Grabbing his keys and putting on a thick coat, he bundled up and went outside to his car parked outside. Getting inside, he drove off into the city; looking for a restaurant that suited his hunger. Spotting Sakura, he pulled into their parking lot and quickly got out. Hot in the car, cold outside; figures. Bundling up and walking inside, he unzipped his coat, took it off, and held it in his hands as a waiter asked him how many and where. Following the waiter to his seat, Kenny’s eyes spotted something or should I say someone, causing him to stop abruptly. Why was Chloe here!? “This can’t be a coincidence.” Oh, but it was. Taking a step or so closer to get a look at Nadia, Ken’s eyes spotted something he wished he didn’t see… Her stomach. Her slightly bloated stomach. Oh, he knew that sight… He knew it all too damn well, “The fuck Chloe!? You’re pregnant!? Again!? And when were you going to tell me this, young lady, hmm!?” He was trying not to raise his voice and cause a scene, but it kind of looked like it was too late for that.

I'M FEELING BLUE LET'S WORK THINGS OUT, 'cause i don't know what to do
?! Chloe was completely oblivious to her surroundings. To her, the entire world consisted of Nadia, and the primary objective was to keep the baby girl entertained. Chloe was convinced, like most mothers, that her baby was the cutest thing on earth. When the next one came, she would think they were tied for first, and all others were distantly behind in second place. For all she knew, an hour passed while she was talking to Nadia- it didn't, really- and her food had already come (heh heh) and gotten too cold to eat. A familiar voice brought her back to Earth, with the rest of the people who weren't Nadia. “This can’t be a coincidence.” What could he possibly mean by that? Did he think Chloe was stalking him? If he was thinking of stalking, maybe he should look at the order in which they had arrived. Unless she had failed to notice his presence before- which she doubted, because she saw pretty much everyone's face, and his wasn't among them- then she had gotten here first. If anything, she had grounds to claimed that he was the one doing the stalking. "Um. Sorry?" What, was she not allowed to go out to eat, just because he might show up?
?! Part of her wondered if he might not notice that she was.. well, you know. But when he said “The fuck Chloe!?" she knew it was too much to hope for. She knew he'd know she hadn't simply gained weight- she was a cop, and generally fit, and naturally slender. It was kind of obvious that her pudge around the middle was from a baby being in there, not just her letting herself go. "You’re pregnant!? Again!?""Yes!" she hissed at him. Nadia started wimpering, Ken's loud voice scaring her. "Shh, honey, shh... it's okay.""And when were you going to tell me this, young lady, hmm!?” She glared up at Ken, gently rubbing Nadia's belly to calm her down. "Be quiet, you are going to get us kicked out." She stopped rubbing Nadia, who had calmed down, and used both hands to grab Ken by the shirt and pull him down onto the seat next to her. "He'll be sitting here," she told the concerned-looking waitress in a stern voice. The waitress, not wanting to interfere, simply nodded wordlessly and laid a menu on the counter in front of Ken. After she left, Chloe glared back at Ken and leaned closer to him so she could talk in a lower voice. "Look, okay? I'm sorry. I wanted to tell you, but I couldn't figure out how. I..." She sighed heavily, looking down, then back up at him. "I was afraid that you wouldn't believe me, and that if something went wrong, you wouldn't believe that either." She looked like she wanted to cry, and was struggling to hold it back. She knew Ken thought she was a total liar, and she didn't blame him. After all the times she'd lied to him, she wouldn't trust herself if she were him. But she was trying now- really trying- and was willing to prove herself to Ken. Maybe all hope for love was lost, but at least she could maintain a civil relationship with him, for Nadia's sake- and the sake of the baby that had yet to arrive.

Of all the places here in Detroit, Chloe just had to be in this one. Why? Why on Earth did she have to be here? What was the connection? Well, she was here before him, but still… Was this a coincidence or something? Sure, they met up here once in the past before the damn car accident, but she didn’t go out much. Kenneth knew that. So why didn’t she just stay at home and make herself and little Nadia some food or something instead of going out? Maybe she knew he would be here and wanted to piss him off? Well, whatever it was; she was pissing him off. Just a little finding out she was here, but even roe so when he saw her tummy slightly bloated. So… She was pregnant again!? And didn’t tell him!? Typical Chloe! What was next? Ugh, she was really pissing him off. And they say celebrity couples didn’t last. They would last, they could last; but with the lies Chloe was doing, there was no chance it would last.
Sorry? “Yeah, bull shit you’re sorry.” As you can see, he was furious or well, really upset. First she was here at the only place that seemed to have good food, then he finds out she was pregnant. Most likely with his kid… Again. Not telling him about this just made it all the worse. Yes? Oh, so now she said she was! “Oh, now you tell me after I find out? Real nice!” Maybe she only admitted when she knew he was damn sure? Unlike the Halloween party. His ‘raised voice’ seemed to make Nadia upset, and Chloe had to tend to her for a bit before telling Kenneth to ‘be quiet’ like some little child. It made his eyebrows lower in anger. Maybe they should get kicked out so they could talk in a more secure location, not in public like this? Before he could reply with some remark, she grabbed him and pulled him down to sit next to her. For a moment, he scooted away, about to get up and bitch, but the waiter gave them a look, one that made him stay seated.
She wanted to tell him but couldn’t figure out how? “You were on AIM. Don’t give me this: I didn’t know how, bull crap, Chloe.” when she sighed then looked back at him, he was awaiting some kind of logical reply. he somewhat got one. “Well, maybe if you wouldn’t lie all the time and instead tell the truth, I wouldn’t think you’re a liar all the time.” Chloe looked as if she was about to cry, but was holding the tears inside. Why? Why feel so sorry all of a sudden? Kenny still had his serious/angered face on, even after all this talk. Glancing away from her, he looked at the menu for a moment; not bothering to open it up. It was probably the same shit as always, so why bother? He wasn’t the kind of guy to try new shit all the time. If he liked it the first time, he shall keep on ordering it until he was sick of it. In which he wasn’t sick of the Gai Kow. But after this, he kind of lost the appetite he once had. “I should just go.” Looking away, he was debating on getting up and leaving… Going back home or maybe if he got his hunger back; to another restaurant?

I'M FEELING BLUE LET'S WORK THINGS OUT, 'cause i don't know what to do
?! Chloe didn't expect Ken to want to believe her right away. She knew he wasn't going to automatically forgive her, and expected a little resistance, hesitance to believe her, and possibly even telling her that her words meant a whole lot of nothing after all the lying she'd done. But still, Ken's words seemed overly harsh to her. “Well, maybe if you wouldn’t lie all the time and instead tell the truth, I wouldn’t think you’re a liar all the time.” It stung. She'd apologized. She knew that wouldn't automatically take care of everything, and that he would likely still be angry, but it seemed like he was just completely unwilling to let go. But she couldn't give up this easily. Then he would think she wasn't really committed to being better, even though she was. She sniffled a little, now even closer to tears. But she was holding them back as best she could. Chloe could never claim to be a robotic woman, because it wasn't like she always repressed her emotions. But she wasn't an overly emotional woman who let everything go the instant she felt anything. Plus, she didn't want to seem like one of those girls who cried to get their way. That wouldn't go over well. And on top of that, even if her tears were real, she didn't think Ken would care. He would probably think she was faking, or worse, just plain old not care that he was breaking her heart. "I'm trying," she whispered, not daring to speak with much force for fear it would just make her cry.
?!“I should just go.” This just hurt her worse. Did he really hate her so much that he couldn't even stay in the same building. "Ken, don't," she whispered again, a tear running down her cheek. "Please... Just listen. I'm sorry..." She knew that "I'm sorry" alone wouldn't mean anything, after all the times she'd said it and then gone and did what she swore she wouldn't do. "I can't change what I did before. I know it was dumb, and I thought it would be best to try to push you away. For your own good." This was nothing he hadn't heard before. But something about the way she was saying it now suggested she really meant it. "I- I know you hate me... But don't take it out on her..." She glanced back at Nadia, who after all that fuss was sleeping soundly in her carrier, unaware that her parental units were fighting right in front of her. "I can't promise to be perfect... But she deserves to have her father around. She loves you. She needs you." Without really thinking about it, she grabbed Ken by the wrist and placed his palm on her belly. As if on cue, the baby started attacking the hand. "And so does he..." Another tear slid down her cheek. "I- I know I've been horrible to you through everything... but all I can do now is try. I will. For- for them."

Great, now he sounded like one of those bratty stuck-up actors that when they didn’t get their way; whined and bitched like some little child. What an impression. Well excuse him for being a little on the angered side when things go wrong all the time. it was hard to control his temper, but he was trying. His mouth, on the other hand, was another story to the tale. But hey, he was trying… But he did want to let Chloe know what he thought. She was a liar. Even when he trusted her, she somehow seemed to lie to him—even worse, right in his face with no emotion. Who says now she was lying again? Kenny didn’t know what to believe anymore. he wanted to give her another chance, but look where that chance left him with? And the other chance after that. How any chances did she get? A lot. And know what? He wasn’t too sure if she was going to get another one. Would it be better if he just left? Probably. So, he was about to just leave. She killed his appetite anyways…
She was trying? “Yeah, so was I.” He really wanted to just give up, but a part of him just didn’t want to. God damn it… But once again, her words seemed to make him cease his actions. Don’t? just listen? She was sorry? “Don’t say sorry unless you mean it—ugh, forget it.” She’d just say sorry anyways; she was a liar, remember!? She can’t change what she did… Well, she got that right. Kenneth couldn’t change anything that was in the past. All he could do was change the present—which he did poorly half the time. but her words caught his attention. Push him away? Turning his head, he raised a brow at her; trying not to feel guilty that she shed a tear because of him, “Why push me away? What did I do to deserve that?” Even though he was trying to hide it, it was visible on his face. He made her cry and just felt awful about it. God, now what kind of a man was he labeled as now?
Hate her? “You got it switched up, Chloe.” As calm as he could be, he replied with that. He didn’t necessarily ‘hate’ her, just her lying. Her herself, no. But she was lying for she hated him, right? That was the reason why, right? Glancing past Chloe and then to little Nadia, he sighed. She was peacefully sleeping while her parents bickered back and forth. Poor angel… Why did this shit have to happen to her, too? Ken didn’t mean to take it out on her. If there was one person he cared for at this table, it was a person younger than two years old. And that was Nadia. Perfect? No one was perfect, but she could clean up her act by at least telling the truth more than she originally does. “It’s just hard to—” To what? Love you? Probably. Who was he kidding, he should just give up. It would only kill him in time if he kept it up. “—to do anything when you lie all the time.” And wasn’t that the truth… With the pause in between. “I don’t expect perfect, I just expect the truth, some care…” A few other things that weren’t hard to do. No possessions or anything.
But Chloe was right. Nadia needed a father figure… Maybe Ken could be one until Chloe found a Mr. Right that she wouldn’t lie to twenty-four seven? But Chloe was right. Nadia needed a father figure… Maybe Ken could be one until Chloe found a Mr. Right that she wouldn’t lie to twenty-four seven? Whatever… He should be used to disappointment. Before letting silence engulf him, Chloe grabbed his wrist and yanked on it; so that his hand was on her belly. Like on cue, as if the baby was an actor, he kicked and kicked Ken’s hand, causing him to caress her tummy for a moment before stopping. What an energetic bugger… “Don’t cry Chloe… I’m sorry.” The last two words were whispered, as if he didn’t want to say it. Really, he didn’t like to see her cry. Proof of that, he gently stroked (heh) her cheek; wiping that tear away.

I'M FEELING BLUE LET'S WORK THINGS OUT, 'cause i don't know what to do
?!“Don’t cry Chloe… I’m sorry.” Chloe took a few shaky breaths, before nodding, and managed to compose herself again. She smiled a little at Ken. At least he was starting to look like he didn't completely hate her... "I- I don't hate you," she said, finally deciding to attempt to explain where she was coming from. "I just... you know, you don't have to be involved at all... I have no choice, but you do. I won't have people talking about me in a newspaper because of a kid. You might. You know how much those reporters love to gossip about this kind of thing." She looked away, sighing. "I just wanted to protect you. Don't screw up your career for- for your kids." She lightly bit her lower lip before looking back at Ken. "I always kind of figured you'd be like any other guy and run from responsibility, but you've done the exact opposite, and it's just so different..." Obviously, Chloe had no prior experience with deadbeat dads, as Nadia was her first baby, but she'd heard from friends with kids that the fathers hightailed it out of there as soon as the girls told them they were going to have kids.
?! After pausing for a second, Chloe realized the baby was still attacking Ken's hand and looked down, laughing a little at him. "He must really like you..."Or really hate you. But she wouldn't say that to Ken- it would ruin the moment. "I wouldn't... blame you if you didn't believe me, but... I'm willing to, you know... work with you, so you can be involved." She was actually telling the truth this time. Unlike with Nadia, she was willing to keep Ken fully-informed on this kid, instead of telling him she would and then not talking to him for months, until she called him over and showed him two-day-old Nadia. No, this time she was going to tell Ken everything. "I actually have a doctor's appointment in a couple days, if you want to come... Like if you're not busy or anything." She and Ken didn't communicate enough, so she had no idea what his schedule was like. She hated that he didn't have a concrete schedule, and even though her own job had weird hours sometimes, it was nowhere near as erratic as his. But she could never actually ask him to find something different- this all started because she didn't want him to give up his career for her, so why would she ask him to change?
?! Just then, the waitress that took Chloe's order before Ken showed up came over with Chloe's food, and set it in front of her. "Thank you," Chloe said to her with a nod and smile, before looking back at Ken. "Are you going to order?" She looked at her plate, then at Ken with a light laugh. "We could share, if you want... I'll never be able to eat all of this." It was so weird- one minute, Chloe would be practically starving, but as soon as she got the food, her appetite would all but disappear, and she would only be able to eat a little bit. The amount of food on her plate was large (heh heh) enough to give even someone with a massive appetite a full stomach. Chloe wasn't lying- there was no way she'd be able to finish it all.

She didn’t hate him, yet, she acted as thought she despised him so damn much. With all the lies and all… If you didn’t hate someone, why do this shit to them? It was a little too much, don’t you think? Not even including them with the child and all. That was just pathetic.
